How future affiliate links would work

An affiliate relationship can allow a publisher to receive a commission when a reader follows a tracked link and completes an eligible action. Meraviox may use this funding model later. No particular network membership, commission rate or price benefit is claimed here.

Disclosure belongs with the recommendation

Before any such links are introduced, the relevant relationship must be explained in plain language near the recommendation and before the reader acts. Gifts, loans and sponsorships must also be identified when relevant. This page would provide context, not replace a nearby disclosure.

The US Federal Trade Commission’s endorsement guidance is one reference for clear disclosure of material connections. Requirements for the actual markets and programmes must also be reviewed before monetisation.

Evidence comes first

Commercial eligibility must not become evidence of quality. An offer’s availability in an affiliate programme is not a reason to recommend it. Future coverage must meet the same editorial standards whether or not a commercial relationship exists.
